“IF YOU ARE A DAD, THINK ABOUT THE RESPONSIBILITY AND OPPORTUNITY THAT YOU HAVE TO BE A REAL LIFE HERO TO YOUR CHILDREN JUST BY LIVING A COURAGEOUS LIFE.” - PATRICK BET-DAVID

The original route was to ride to PATAGONIA.

We only made it 600 miles to the south of Santiago and had to turn around.

This was the 1st motorcycle expedition I did with my son, when he was 7 years old.

In February 2015, Sebastián (my son) and I set off on our first motorcycle adventure and rode to the South of Chile.

We headed for Patagonia but after a few days into the trip, I realized my goal was too ambitious, considering it was extremely hot riding during the day and too dangerous to ride at night. Plus we faced 3 days of heavy rain near Chiloé island (The gateway to Patagonia).

Sebastián was only 7 years old. He lasted no more than one hour of riding before falling asleep. I had him strapped to my back with a seat belt and supported his back with my photo/video camera backpack. To the sides, I had our duffel bags on top of the panniers.

Basically, he was pretty comfortable and safe. However, we stopped at every gas stations along the highway (1,200-mile round trip).

We had a great time. We visited old friends and made new ones. We tried different food, went fishing, did some trekking and pitched our tent under the stars.

You just don’t see a father and his little kid traveling by motorcycle, like we did. People took thousand pictures of us at gas stations, in restaurants or simply when we waited in line at a toll booth. We got our 15 minutes of fame :))))

After that expedition, I made the decision to buy a sidecar.
