“THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO AVOID CRITICISM: DO NOTHING, SAY NOTHING, AND BE NOTHING.” - ARISTOTLE
Motorcycle expedition in the middle of Winter.
1,000 miles from Chile to Buenos Aires.
Bureaucracy is a nightmare that inspires good stories.
In July 2018, Sebastián and I went to pick my bike in Mendoza, where I had it parked for 9 months at my good friend’s house, Andrés Heiremans.
It took us 5 days to ride 650 miles from Mendoza to Buenos Aires.
The weather conditions were fine. Most of the time, it was sunny but very cold. We had 2 days of heavy rain and stayed in cozy small town hotel, somewhere along the way. But we kept pushing on and made it to Buenos Aires in one piece.
I left my bike at public parking lot until February 2019 (7 months).
If a foreign vehicle (like my bike) runs out of time in its Temporary Import Permit, the bureaucracy in Argentina to fix that becomes a nightmare. That’s what happened to me, so it took me 7 months and USD1,500 penalty fee to obtain all the paperwork to be able to air freight my bike from Buenos Aires to London.
At least, that ordeal became a great story for one of my books.
